No sections open to traffic. Environmental impact study in progress from U.S. 171 near Stonewall, east to I-49, then northeast to I-20 near Haughton (FR Notice).
The current plans for I-69 around Shreveport (SIU 15) are to build a new freeway bypassing the urbanized area to the south and east. Unlike I-49 and I-20, I-69's proposed route does not go through Shreveport; however, access to and from Shreveport via I-49 and I-20 should not be problematic.
The plans for this segment call for interchanges at:
As of January 2003, there is a “preferred corridor” within which the actual highway alignments will be developed (see map [PDF; 962k]).
The preferred corridor starts at U.S. 171 in the just south of the corporate limits of Stonewall, and heads generally to the east, meeting I-49 south of LA 3276. From there, one branch turns to the north near Frierson to meet LA 1 near the Port of Shreveport-Bossier. From the port, this branch heads east-north-east, crossing the Red River and U.S. 71 near LA 527. The second branch crosses the river downstream of the port, southwest of Stumpy Lake. The branches rejoin near the intersection of LA 167 and LA 527, turning north between Oakland and Koran, continuing to meet I-20 west of the the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant near Haughton.
In early 2003, the project team plans to develop a series of 300-foot wide alignments, which will be presented at public meetings in mid-2003. One of these alignments (or a combination of the alignments) will then be selected as a preferred alternative for the route, based on public and resource agency comments.
